The Postcard Museum
The Postcard Museum
Michelbach an der Lücke
The Postcard Museum is a meticulously reconstructed model of the already demolished Wiedmannhaus, the former school building in Michelbach an der Lücke. Gabriela Oberkofler's contribution to the theatre project DAS DORFFEST / DAS THEATER can be seen in Michelbach an der Lücke until 26 June.
The postcards were not created on site, but from afar, on a journey from Stuttgart to Michelbach. However, the artist never arrived at her destination, so the motifs depicted remain images of a stereotypical village of longing and dreams. They show a fantastic village—idealised and abysmal at the same time. Even if real references can be found, such as the Michelbach church, the Jewish cemetery, the synagogue, the former butcher’s shop or some special houses, the ‘little pictures’ essentially show a fusion of reality and fiction.
