Over the Fence
Over the Fence—Performance for the Collection of Wild Growth
Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg
From 15 July to 27 September 2015, Gabriela Oberkofler will be presenting the spatial installation Over the Fence—Performance for the Collection of Wild Growth in the south wing of the Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg.
As part of the exhibition, Gabriela Oberkofler and a herb expert are inviting people to take part in an action in which they will explore the neighbourhood together and collect and dry meadow flowers and herbs for a participatory art project. Citizens are asked to collect flowers and herbs. The plants are then dried on site in a special flower press and then become part of a large collage, so that the participants actively help to create art.
The participatory art project Over the fence not only highlights and reflects on questions of selection, collection and preservation, but also critically scrutinises the boundaries of art. How much wild growth does art need so that it does not degenerate into an artificial monoculture where only the high-yielding crops are cultivated?
